Religion and Crime in Kenya, 2024

This report presents the key findings, implications, and recommendations from a comprehensive study conducted the major findings are categorized into three main thematic areas: Nature and patterns of criminal practices perpetrated under the guise of religion; factors driving crimes using religious motivations, and identification and prevention of crimes disguised in religion. The study findings revealed that there are detrimental practices under the guise of religion: The harmful practices within the various religious groups, range from activities that constitute criminal offenses to those generally perceived as detrimental. Notably, these practices vary across the religious groups due to each group’s specific unique beliefs and the leadership influence shaping the group behavior.
