Impact of the Bail and Bond Policy Guidelines, 2024

This report set out to investigate the level of satisfaction with the bail and bond policy guidelines, the challenges and gaps around the guidelines and the impact of the policy. The research was in response to issues raised by accused persons and duty bearers both in the public as well as in various events and forums on the right to bail and bond in Kenya. Reports of the Bail and Bond Implementation Committee (BBIC) and other actors have for instance documented shortcomings with the bail and bail process in the country, despite the formulation of the Bail and Bond Policy Guidelines (BBPGs) by the National Council for the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) to which the National Crime Research Centre (NCRC) is a member and advisor from a research perspective.
