Alcohol and drugs trafficking are major problems the world over. It affects all parts of the world either as the source, transit or destination. Criminal networks traffic a range of illicit alcohol and drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine among others. As international borders become increasingly connected, global movement, accessibility and abuse of drugs have become increasingly widespread. Illicit alcohol and drug trafficking is often associated with other forms of crime, such as money laundering, corruption, human trafficking, terrorism, proliferation of small arms and light weapons. These crimes undermine the rule of law and stability of countries and are major sources of illegitimate revenue for
organized crime groups (UNODC, 2013).
